Guests already??

Yes! Graham and Lailey came to see us on Wednesday and they left Sunday morning. It was a really nice visit with good conversation, tasty food (my favorite!), scurrying through the rain, and a few choice tourist activities. All in all very chill, very comfortable, and comforting.

Graham, soaking it up.

Shane had to work Thursday and Friday, of course, so it was up to me to navigate the city. I was pleasantly surprised to find how competently I know my way around, already.

We went to Kilmainham Gaol, which Shane and I remembered being very interesting and it did not disappoint. Our tour guide was very professorial, and we could tell he cared deeply for his topic. I think this is probably a good place for most visitors to begin, because it really gives you the background of the country and a sense of the source of Irish national pride. It’s definitely unsettling and not particularly cheery, but fascinating and informative. And as tourist spots go, entrance is pretty inexpensive.

Friday we wandered about the History and Archeology branch of the National Museum, which I find a little yawn-inspiring, but I think I’ve been spoiled by the British Museum. However, the bog mummies were awesome and it was free.

Saturday we went to Phoenix park and got to see several roaming groups of deer. It was way cool. We considered going to the zoo, but it’s costly and zoos always depress me so we wandered on. The president’s ‘home’ is in the park and we thought we could walk right up to it, but then it turned out there was a moat. Which is also cool.

There is something very festive about having house guests. It feels like you’re always having a party. Which, honestly, can be a little tiring, but it was awesome, nonetheless. Besides, I like feeding people. Who’s next?
